Today we took five children to Dover College so they could participate in a Maths Challenge Competition. Each of seven teams were given problem solving, teamwork puzzles, relay and quick fire challenges to do, along with sudoku and a maths terminology crossword challenge. Ducklings have been developing their early maths skills by exploring and recognising number patterns. The children focused on identifying numbers using dice patterns, helping them to link quantities with numerals. To apply this learning, the children worked in pairs to play a simple track game. Year 6 have worked extremely hard this week on their first unit of fractions. We have been adding and subtracting mixed numbers, converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and finding the common denominator. They can also confidently find fractions of amounts.
