Yr 5 Maths Challenge
Today four Year 5 pupils went to Folkestone Academy to participate in a primary school's Maths Challenge. A total of eighteen schools faced six rounds of varied types of questions. There was a speed round, logic puzzles, a murder mystery to solve, a group challenge, a crossnumber and a set of relay questions. Our children showed perseverance whilst working their brains really hard. They did a fantastic job and came 3rd overall. Well done you made us proud.

Doubling Fun
Ducklings have been learning all about doubling and have been working really hard to understand how numbers are made up of parts and a whole. We have been exploring how, when we double a number, the parts are always equal, which means they are the same amount. The children are becoming more confident with their doubles from double 1 all the way to double 5! To help us explain our thinking, we have been using stem sentences to talk about what we know. Each puzzle was worth differing points which were added up at the end. The staff at Dover College were very welcoming and offered us a most amazing lunch. Number Tracks
Ducklings have been developing their early maths skills by exploring and recognising number patterns. The children focused on identifying numbers using dice patterns, helping them to link quantities with numerals. To apply this learning, the children worked in pairs to play a simple track game. They took turns rolling a dice, counting the spots and moving their counters along the track. The aim was to reach number 10 first. This engaging, hands-on activity, supported the EYFS

Chocolate Maths in Year 6
Year 6 have worked extremely hard this week on their first unit of fractions. We have been adding and subtracting mixed numbers, converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and finding the common denominator. They can also confidently find fractions of amounts. To demonstrate this knowledge, they were given chocolate! They successfully found 1/2, 1/4 and 1/3 of a given amount and naturally, the chocolate was devoured during and after the lesson. Thank you for all your hard
