Doubling Fun

Ducklings have been learning all about doubling and have been working really hard to understand how numbers are made up of parts and a whole. We have been exploring how, when we double a number, the parts are always equal, which means they are the same amount. The children are becoming more confident with their doubles from double 1 all the way to double 5!
To help us explain our thinking, we have been using stem sentences to talk about what we know. For example, when doubling 3 we might say, “3 is a part and 3 is a part and the whole is 6. Double 3 is 6.” We can also say, “6 is made of 3 and 3, 3 and 3 makes 6.” This has really helped us to build our understanding and use mathematical language with confidence.
We have been showing our doubles in lots of fun ways, including using our fingers and different objects from around the classroom. Why not challenge us at home and see how quickly we can recall our doubles?
