Litter Picking at Beach School

Today we learnt about the role of the moon and the tide. We learnt that the moon's gravitational pull generates something called the tidal force. The tidal force causes Earth—and its water—to bulge out on the side closest to the moon and the side farthest from the moon. We then all joined hands, acted out the movement of the water, and learnt about how we get high and low tides depending on the bulges. We learnt that the sub lunar tides, is when the moon is directly over a specific point on the Earth and the moon's gravity pulls water towards the moon. We learnt that the antipodal tides is when the moon's gravitational effect on a particular spot on the earth is at its weakest. The children then continued with a role-play activity by acting out some beach themed words, some of which was very tricky to act out! Finally, we ended our session with some creative time, where most children were meticulously clearing the beach of litter pollution. We managed to fill an entire black sack, which was very heavy by the time we had finished. Another fab session of Beach School for Year 3!
