Year One: The Three Little Pigs

To start our new English topic this term, we took part in an exciting hook activity. We followed clues hidden around the school hall to help us work out what our new class story would be. The clues included pink paper, a builder’s hat, straw, sticks, the number 3 and bricks. These clues got us thinking carefully and sharing our ideas with each other.

Once we had gathered all the clues, we were able to work out that our new class text is The Three Little Pigs. We then read the story together as a class.

The following day, we read a shorter version of the story and worked in teams of two and three to put the events in the correct order. This helped us to understand the story better and practise our sequencing skills.

To finish our learning, we completed a fun challenge where we had to build a house using spaghetti and marshmallows or Blu Tac. Just like in the story, we had to think about how we can make the strongest house. This activity encouraged teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity.
