This week, Years 5 and 6 had a workshop with two lovely members from The Social Justice Network Charity.
The charity is based within the Diocese of Canterbury and works within communities to alleviate issues of poverty and vulnerability, especially the homeless, refugees and asylum seekers.
The children had a good understanding of the difference between migrants, refugees and asylum seekers. They were then shown a clip of a very familiar face, Paddington Bear, alone and lost in Paddington station. The children then quickly became aware of the notion that Paddington was in fact a refugee arriving from Peru seeking safety and love.
The workshop ended with the children writing small messages of things they would do for someone arriving in their school seeking comfort just like Paddington. Many of them were very heartwarming and profound.
