During this week all the classes participated in KIC theatre drama workshops. The topics covered were Sound, Shadow and Light, Journeys, Where the Wild Things Are, Transition, Secret Agents and Our Local Area. KIC Theatre is always a popular activity with all the classes and Ian is brilliant with the children.

This afternoon in Year Six we had a transition workshop. This is where we thought about the theme of transition and how we felt about this upcoming experience. We explored this through games, question and answer sessions, and writing advice for each other . Through our games we found out that a lot of us shared the same worries and it was great to support each other as a class. Last week, our Ducklings began their learning about journeys and the different ways people travel. Through a range of exciting activities, the children have explored transport past and present, comparing old and new cars and discussing how these vehicles have changed over time. The children enjoyed designing and drawing their own vehicles before bringing their ideas to life by building cardboard cars. Last term, our Ducklings were very busy creating their own colourful bookmarks using needles, embroidery thread and binca. This activity gave the children the opportunity to practise and apply threading skills while developing their fine motor control and hand-eye coordination. Today many of James' Dance Club performed at the Quarterhouse. The event was the Wavelengths Community Dance Day, it is the second year this exciting opportunity has been held. Various different Dance Schools joined in for this event, which was a pleasure to watch. Huge thanks to James for organising and teaching our children the two dances, Colour of Love and Journey to the Past. We really appreciate all the children and parents that helped to make the occasion so great.

What a fabulous day we have had celebrating World Music Day today. We were so fortunate to be joined by Kevin Richards, the drummer from Gumboots Reggae Band, who led every class in a drumming workshop. The children did a great job drumming out the various patterns Kevin taught them and also at following a type of call and response signal letting them know when to start, break and stop. At lunchtime, Mrs Hodgkinson sang to the children in the hall whilst they ate their lunch.

Yesterday we had a chance to experience a forty minute Zumba class. It was very fast but so much fun. Everyone was listening carefully to the next instruction as you can see by the expressions on some of their faces. By the end we had some very sweaty children!

This week, Years 5 and 6 had a workshop with two lovely members from The Social Justice Network Charity. The charity is based within the Diocese of Canterbury and works within communities to alleviate issues of poverty and vulnerability, especially the homeless, refugees and asylum seekers. The children had a good understanding of the difference between migrants, refugees and asylum seekers. They were then shown a clip of a very familiar face, Paddington Bear, alone and lost
