Today we took five children to Dover College so they could participate in a Maths Challenge Competition. Each of seven teams were given problem solving, teamwork puzzles, relay and quick fire challenges to do, along with sudoku and a maths terminology crossword challenge. There was a mix of recyclable items at one end of the hall and labelled bins at the other. One by one, the children had to run to pick an item and put it in the correct bin. Ducklings have been developing their early maths skills by exploring and recognising number patterns. The children focused on identifying numbers using dice patterns, helping them to link quantities with numerals. To apply this learning, the children worked in pairs to play a simple track game. Today in PSHE Year 2 we’re dreaming big! We began our lesson by thinking about “dreams for our future” and goals that we hope to achieve. We all shared our ideas and watched a video about job roles to inspire and broaden our horizons.
