Clay Tiles

In our Year 6 Art lessons we have been learning about Renaissance Architecture and sculpture. We have looked at different buildings and talked about the key features, when it was built and also learnt about who designed it. The first building we looked at was the Florence Cathedral. We learnt that it was designed by Brunelleschi, who was also famous for discovering linear perspective. It is famous for the design of its dome, which was inspired by the Pantheon in Rome. It also has the largest brick dome in the world and has no internal supporting wooden frame. The children then designed their own clay relief tile of the Florence Cathedral. This process is now under way and they have rolled and shaped their own tile and have started to add their details to it. I cannot wait to see how these turn out.
